January 12 to 18, 2020

Sunday ; Sunny and warm.

Our visiting friends David and Shauna went by themselves to explore nearby Joshua Tree National Park today.

We had an early lunch then went out to run errands. We were back home shortly before it became dark outside. We went for a long hot tub soak before dinner. While Joanne binge watched 90 Day Fiance in the evening I went to the East Clubhouse and worked on Wi-Fi in the library.

Monday ; Sunny and warm.

This morning we left home at 10:30 AM, with David and Shauna and Zona with us, for a day of thrift store shopping. We were back home at 7 PM. WHEW … long day ! David treated us to lunch at Sherman’s Deli, our favourite Palms Spring restaurant. THANK YOU !

Tuesday ; Sunny and warm.

This afternoon Joanne went with David and Shauna to run errands and browse at “antique” stores … < shrug >. I stayed home, had a leisurely lunch, took a nap, walked  Zona, and went to the swimming pool to do an exercise session and have a long, leisurely soak in the hot tub.

Wednesday ; Sunny and warm.

This morning Joanne prepared a picnic lunch and at noon we left, in our car, with David and Shauna, and drove a few miles to the nearby Thousand Palms Oasis at the Coachella Valley Nature Preserve. We explored the natural oasis a bit, had our picnic lunches, then went hiking and exploring in the desert oasis. We had more plans for the afternoon so around 2 PM we returned home to Sky Valley Resort.

I picked up an empty propane tank, David and Shauna picked up their dog Zona, and we set off again. We drove a few miles to nearby Blair Station RV and while
I got a propane tank refilled David went into the store and browsed for parts for their old motorhome.

I put the refilled propane tank into the back of the car, and went inside the store to retrieve Joanne and David. The faint odour of propane around the refilled tank in the car made Shauna ill … < sigh >. The rest of the afternoon’s plans got abruptly cancelled and we drove back to Sky Valley … < sigh >. David and Shauna retreated into their motorhome, and after a brief rest Joanne and I set off to resume and complete the rest of the afternoon’s plans.

We drove into Desert Hot Springs and found our way to Cabot’s Pueblo Museum. It was already closed for the day … < sigh >. We went to Angel View Thrift Store and browsed for awhile. I bought a couple of interesting hardware items. We returned to Sky Valley, arriving home around 6 PM. Before preparing supper we went to the swimming pool area and spent half an hour or so soaking in the hot tub.

Thursday ; Sunny and warm.

Our friends David and Shauna went out this morning to do some antique shopping, returning mid-afternoon. Around noon Joanne and I went to the swimming pool, did an exercise session, then soaked in the hot tub for awhile. We returned home and I made a nice omelet for lunch. AHHHHH … time for a nap !

After David and Shauna returned home in mid-afternoon Joanne joined them in another swimming pool and hot tub session, David and Shauna’s first and last during their one week visit … Joanne’s second of the day. HA HA HA !

At 5 PM we all left to head downtown for Palm Springs weekly Village Fest. We wandered up and down the pedestrian mall section of Palm Canyon Drive from 6 PM to 7:15 PM. Joanne and I bought a loaf of bread at the Farmer’s Market. David and Shauna bought … nothing.

There was nothing at the many food stands at Village Fest that appealed to David so … we left Village Fest and drove to Elmer’s Restaurant for supper. We were back home around 9 PM.

Friday ; Happy 21st Birthday to Joanne’s niece Madeleine

Sunny and warm.

Our friends David and Shauna, and their dog Zona, left this morning to return to Yuma.

Around noon we headed out to a restaurant Joanne was interested in. Lunch at El Tranvia was extremely good. I ordered a platillo pollo en mole, con arroz y frijoles / chicken mole platter with rice and refried beans. Best mole ( pronounced “molay”, a savoury chocolate based sauce ) we’ve ever tasted ! Joanne ordered a torta machaca / shredded seasoned beef sub sandwich. We each ate half our meal, then swapped. MMMMM ! After having lunch we drove a very short distance to Las Tres Conchitas, our favourite panaderia / Mexican bakery in the Palm Springs area. We stocked up on pan dulce / Mexican pastries. MMMMM !

This afternoon while I napped Joanne did laundry, then at dusk we went to soak in the hot tub. In the evening we binge watched “90 Day Fiance” … again ! HA HA HA !

Saturday ; Sunny and warm.

Around noon we went to the swimming pool and did an exercise session and hot tub soak. As we were finishing at the pool the resort’s monthly “block party” was starting on the lawn area adjacent to the pool. We returned home, had lunch, I napped, and then we returned for the 3 PM to 4 PM live band performance. It was a classic rock band playing hits of the late 60’s and early 70’s, the “coming of age” era of most of the residents in this community. HA HA HA !

Rock on, boomers !

HEY ! Great week in the stock market !
