January 21 to 27, 2018

Sunday ;  Overcast, cold wind blowing, temperature around freezing.

We had a lazy day.  By design.  I prepared our Kofa Ko-op AGM ballots for return by mail.  I did some routine weekly investments updating and analysis.  I watched a bit of the Barrett-Jackson annual auto auction on TV, as I have done daily for the last few days.  I posted my weekly journal to my blog.  We went for a couple of walks with Ozzie.

I wonder if I should "retire" my blog ?  Or am I just suffering from winter depression / "seasonal affective disorder" / S.A.D.?  I spent some time late this afternoon planning some summer travel adventures.  That cheered me up a bit.  However, my spirits crashed again when I learned, late in the evening, of the death of my childhood friend, neighbour,  and mid-teen years "partner-in-crime".  < sigh >  Farewell and Godspeed, Ernie.

Monday ;  Penticton

Sunny, temperature around freezing.

Joanne invited our neighbour / friend Jeanine to join her for a couple of hours of shopping at Value Village in Penticton while I attended my cardiac rehabilitation fitness session twelve of thirty.  We left home at 1 PM, picked Jeanine up at her home, and headed to Penticton.  While I was at my fitness session from 2 PM until 3:45 PM, Joanne and Jeanine enjoyed their time at Value Village's 50% off sale day.  Joanne refilled the minivan with fuel on her way back to pick me up at the gym.  AND ... she splashed fuel on her coat, and now it stinks !

They picked me up at the gym, and ... < sigh > ... we returned to Value Village.  Joanne was insistent that I look at a coat she thought I might want.  < sigh >  It didn't fit me.  Jeanine invited us to have "early bird" dinner at a Chinese buffet restaurant.  Her treat !  We accepted.  Thank you for dinner, Jeanine.  We finished dinner around 6 PM and were back home around 7 PM.

Tuesday ;  Overcast, cold.

Checked and treated Ozzie's ears.  Again !  Checked and brushed Ozzie's ( remaining few ) teeth.  First time !  Went okay.  Good dog, Ozzie.  Did some minor home maintenance.

Wednesday ;  Penticton

Very strange weather today.  Cloudy at home at Riverside RV Park Resort.  Drizzle at Keremeos village.  Heavy snowfall / blizzard conditions around Yellow Lake and Twin Lakes.  Heavy rain in Penticton.

We left for Penticton at 1 PM.  While I was at my cardiac rehabilitation fitness program from 2 PM to 3:45 PM Joanne ran some errands in Penticton.  We were back home around 5 PM.  In the evening we watched a two hour episode of Amazing Race.

Thursday ;  Sunny.  Freezing rain overnight.  Everything coated in ice this morning.  Tough to walk the dog.  All melted by noon.

Fabricated a new cat litter box "wall" today.  Did the sawing work in the living room, because ... it's winter !  Made a mess !  Reconciled and paid the monthly MasterCard bill.  YIKES !

Friday ;  Penticton

A little bit of sunshine in the morning.  A little bit of snow late in the afternoon.

We left at 1 PM for Penticton.  Joanne ran errands while I was at cardiac rehabilitation fitness from 2 PM to 3:45 PM.  Afterwards we went to T-Bones, a specialty butcher shop to buy some advertised specials.  Then to Canadian Tire to buy some canned cat food, another advertised special.

After supper, while I was doing today's credit card accounting ... HUH ?  What do you mean Ozzie's bag of dog food cost $93 ? ? ?  GEEEEEZZZZZ ... no wonder pet food store owners are rich !  HA HA HA !

Saturday ;  Overcast.  Temperature around freezing.  So what else is new ? ! ?

This morning we flushed out Ozzie's left ear.  He has chronic ear infections, and I have been unable to completely clear out the problem in his left ear for ... < thinking > ... nine months !  So ... hence the ear flush, a technique I have never done on a dog before.  Seemed to work okay.  And my expectation that "gunk" would flush out of his ear was ... not met !  No gunk !  So ... tomorrow I'll clean the ear AGAIN ...and administer antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, analgesic ear drops AGAIN !

This afternoon I remounted a shower head mounting bracket in the shower stall.  I had installed a new mounting bracket shortly after my surgery, to accommodate my sitting showers, using a very strong automotive moulding double sided tape.  And I completed an online survey undertaken by the B.C. provincial government, on an upcoming referendum ( next November ) on electoral reform in British Columbia.  Maintain "First Past The Post" or convert to one of the many "Proportional Representation" systems that exist within the context of democracy ?

In the evening Joanne baked a birthday cake for herself. Seems to be something wrong with that picture, n'est-ce-pas ?  HA HA HA !

January 14 to 20, 2018

Sunday ;  Cloudy, temperature just above freezing during the day, misty freezing rain late in the evening < sigh >.

We invited our neighbour / friend Jeanine over for supper.  I cooked Lake Winnipeg Pickerel for supper, one of my specialties.

Monday ;  Penticton

Cloudy, very low ceiling, thick fog around Yellow Lake when we were driving to Penticton, temperature slightly above freezing, snow melting.

After an early lunch we headed to Penticton for my ninth of thirty cardiac rehabilitation fitness sessions.  While I was at the gym Joanne went Wal-Martin'.

Tuesday ;  Cloudy, temperature above freezing, wet snow falling.

We trimmed Emma's claws today.  YIKES !  Sharp !  I downloaded, filled out, and printed 2017 IRS 8840 forms for both of us today.  < sigh >  I dislike that annual chore.

Wednesday ;  Penticton ; HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY TO JOANNE'S NIECE MADELEINE

Cloudy, melting.

At 1 PM we headed to Penticton for my cardiac rehabilitation fitness session ten of thirty at 2 PM.  While I was there Joanne ran errands, picking me up when finished at 4 PM.  We were back home at 5 PM.  After supper we watched Amazing Race.

Thursday ;  Penticton

Sunny, melting.  After lunch we headed to Penticton ... again !  We ran a couple of errands, refilled the minivan with fuel, then headed to Landmark Cinemas to attend a "foreign art" film, part of the Kitchen Stove Film Series, Penticton's "foreign art" film festival.  We've always enjoyed attending the monthly "foreign art" film at the Historic Yuma Theater, so decided we might as well give the Kitchen Stove Film Series in Penticton a try.  And we're glad we did.  Today's film was "The Other Side Of Hope" from Finland, and we quite enjoyed it.

The movie was from 4 PM to 6 PM.  We refilled our five gallon water jug in Keremeos on the way home, and were back home by 7:15 PM.

Friday ;  Penticton

We were awakened by the sound of a truck behind our house at 5 AM.  HUH ?  Why is there a truck on the laneway behind our house at 5 AM ? ? ?  It was our previous next door neighbour Marcie's son, arriving in the middle of the night.  He must have left his Lower Mainland ( Vancouver area ) home after midnight.  He was here to unload more of his mother's stuff from the house.  He came over ... and woke us up for a second time ! ... at 8:20 AM, to apologize for waking us up ... the first time at 5 AM ! ... and "whine" about the flooding and extensive water damage in Marcie's home caused by a toilet tank that froze, cracked, then thawed.  Well, pal ... tell someone who gives a tiny rat's ass !  We told you more than three months ago that your mother's home required "winterization" to be left vacant over the winter.

After brunch we left for our fourth trip to Penticton this week !  In Penticton I went to a medical laboratory and had blood drawn for tests ordered by my cardiologist.  Then
I went to my ( eleventh of thirty ) cardiac rehabilitation fitness session and Joanne went grocery shopping at Superstore.  I started about a half hour before my scheduled start time of 2:15 PM, so I was finished a bit early, around 3:30 PM.  We were home by
4:30 PM.  Oh, boy   ... the entire drive home was in daylight !

Saturday ;  Partially sunny, temperature hovering around freezing.

This afternoon I ordered some theatre tickets online, for two different plays, both in Oliver, one next month, and one in April.  Joanne did a lot of laundry.  I did some preventive maintenance on the minivan.  And I reviewed the package of documents we received from our southern home, Kofa Ko-op RV Park in Yuma, Arizona.  It's AGM time soon.  Time to vote on proposals and board members.

I can't help but notice ... and comment on ... how much more simple and straightforward ... and civilized ... the political process is at Kofa Ko-op RV Park in Yuma, Arizona than at Riverside RV Park Resort in Keremeos, BC.

January 7 to 13, 2018

Sunday ;  Cloudy, temperature slightly above freezing, windy.

We examined Ozzie's mouth today, fifteen days after his oral surgery.  Healing seems to be progressing well, although it looks like the veterinarian not only had to remove twenty-five teeth, but some infected gum tissue as well.  Poor Ozzie !  But ... the
dental / mouth problems are solved now !

Joanne spent much of the afternoon dealing with her apple problem.  She had apples stored inside the camper.  They froze !  And today she had to make apple sauce with them.  A lot of apple sauce !  She also made turkey soup with the Christmas turkey's carcass and bones.  And she did a lot of laundry.  I helped by ... trimming my beard, reading and, of course, napping.  HA HA HA !

Monday ;  Penticton

Cloudy, temperature above freezing, snow melting.  After an early lunch we left for Penticton.  While I was at my cardiac rehabilitation fitness session from 2 PM to 4 PM Joanne ran errands in Penticton.  We were back home shortly after 5 PM.

Tuesday ;  Cloudy, temperature slightly above freezing, some wet snow falling briefly in the afternoon.

We gave Ozzie a bath this afternoon.

Wednesday ;  Penticton

Sunny early in the day, cloudy later, temperature slightly above freezing.

After an early lunch we left for Penticton.  I had an appointment with my cardiologist ... at the cardiac rehabilitation gym.  Before my fitness session.  My cardiologist is sort of the "godfather" of Penticton's cardio pulmonary rehabilitation programs and this fitness gym.  And he comes to the gym on a regular basis and meets his patients, by appointment, to deal with any problems / concerns they have.  How convenient !  After meeting with my cardiologist, I did my regular two hour session of carefully supervised fitness program.  WHEW !  My "trainer" / physiotherapist today really pushed my limits.  I'm tired and sore tonight.

After running some errands in Penticton for a couple of hours Joanne picked me up at the gym and we ran a couple more errands before returning home to have supper ... and watch Amazing Race.

Thursday ;  Heavy snowfall all day, forcing a cancellation of our day's plans to go into town ( Keremeos ) to run some errands.

Friday ;  Penticton

We spent much of the morning shovelling a lot of snow.  After an early lunch we headed into Keremeos and ran the errands postponed from yesterday.  We refilled our five gallon water jug, then while I took a new prescription form to the pharmacy Joanne went to the credit union to buy coinage.  From Keremeos we drove into Penticton.  I went to my cardiac rehabilitation fitness program while Joanne ran more errands.  She picked me up at 4 PM.  We drove back to Keremeos, I picked up my new prescription at the pharmacy, and we were back home by 5:15 PM.

Saturday ;
Sunny early in the day, cloudy later, temperature around freezing.

Our neighbour / friend Jeanine baked some cookies for me today.  Thank you.  I did some work on annual medical expense and prescription accounting, as well as some year end investments records keeping and analysis.  And ... you know ... had a long nap in the afternoon.

Lamb roast for supper.  Then ... LIVE ... FROM NEW YORK ... ! ! !

December 31, 2017 to January 6, 2018

Sunday ;  New Year's Eve

Cloudy and cold.

With all the snow we have had lately,  I suppose it is a little more difficult for the local eagles to find prey.  As we were walking with Ozzie, a Bald Eagle soared slowly down over us, and slowly circled right above us, obviously wondering whether the little red sweatered creature below was edible.  Don't do it, Mr. Eagle ... he's probably too heavy for you to lift.  HA HA HA !

I did some artwork rearranging.  And some year end financial analysis work.  And ... you know ... napping !  Joanne baked a leg of lamb for supper, which we ate while watching "Star Trek ; The Movie".  WOW !  Dated !  We were surprised at how "primitive" special effects were in 1979.

Monday ;  HAPPY NEW YEAR

Sunny and cold.  Today I did my cardiac rehabilitation substitute exercise session seven of seven at Riverside RV Park Resort.  My Wednesday session will be back at the cardiac rehabilitation program in Penticton, re-opened after the holidays.  I am a good boy for having stuck to my seven substitute sessions commitment over the holidays.  In the evening I worked on year end investment updates and annual analyses.

Tuesday ;  Sunny and cold.

Today I collected all the oversize shirts and sweaters Joanne obtained for me to wear immediately after my return home following triple bypass surgery three months ago, and prepared them for donation to the Salvation Army in Penticton tomorrow.  I successfully repaired my broken WaterPik.  There was no "downside" to dismantling it and attempting repair.  It was either fix it or discard it.  I continued working on year end investment updates and annual analyses.

Wednesday ;  Penticton

Sunny and cold.  We left home about 11:45 AM heading for Penticton.  We ran errands in Penticton until it was time for me to go to my cardiac rehabilitation fitness session
( four of thirty ) at 2 PM.  While I was there Joanne went to Superstore to do our weekly grocery shopping.  She picked me up at 3:45 PM and we finished our errands with a shopping trip to Wal-Mart.  We left Penticton about 5 PM and were home about 6 PM.

WOO-HOO !  Season premiere of Amazing Race tonight !

Thursday ;  Cloudy and cold.

Made some "business" phone calls this morning.  Set up appointments for dental cleanings in Penticton in about a month.  Cost will be approximately four times what we pay in Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico.  And that takes into account the Penticton dentist's seniors' discount and first time patients' discount.

Clipped Ozzie's nails and trimmed some hair ... < ahem > ... from strategic locations.  Brushed Emma.  What a lovely cat !  Today is the one year anniversary of the day we brought her home as a "foster".  Weighed her today.  Her weight has increased 50% in the year that we've had her !  From seven pounds to ten and a half pounds.  And she could still stand to gain about another pound and a half.

In the evening, I worked on prescription medication "accounting" and records keeping, and more year end investment work.

Friday ;  Penticton

Freezing rain overnight.  < sigh >  We woke up this morning to find the minivan ( and everything else ) coated in ice.

We left for Penticton around 12:45 PM.  We arrived at my cardiac rehabilitation program on time at 2 PM.  Joanne went to run errands for two hours while I was at my fitness session.  The two occupational  therapists working the program today increased my fitness machine settings significantly today.  WHEW !  Tough workout !  I'm tired and sore !  Joanne picked me up at 4 PM and we made a brief shopping stop at London Drugs before heading home.  After melting and becoming slushy earlier in the day the roads were re-freezing as we drove home in the dark.  We arrived home around 5:30 PM.

Saturday ;
Cloudy, temperature slightly above freezing, snow melting slowly.

This morning when we were walking Ozzie around the park our neighbour / friend Jeanine invited us in for a brief visit.  She has just returned from a two week visit with her daughter and granddaughter in North Vancouver.

This afternoon I did a teensy bit of preventive maintenance work on the minivan.  And
I worked on compiling and summarizing our 2017 medical related expenses for income tax purposes.  < whispering >  And I made a restaurant reservation for Joanne's upcoming birthday.
