September 25 & 26, 2009

Well ... the lesson I learned this morning was ... eating too many apples causes bears to have severe diarrhea ! And the evidence of that lesson could be found on the road in front of our lot this morning.

This morning around 5:30 A.M. a female bear and her two cubs came through the park. And one of the cubs left a huge mess on the road in front of our lot. HEY ... lighten up on the apples there, Baby Bear !

It's apple harvest time. And we have three or four apple laden trees in our park's orchard. And bears come in during the night to feast. But usually they just cross the river adjacent to the orchard, eat their fill, then cross back over the river again. They don't usually wander through the residential lots section of the park.

Today I went on a group outing organized by our park's social committee members. A winery tour of six wineries between Okanagan Falls and Oliver. The original plan had been to charter a bus for this outing, but there weren't enough participants ( surprise, surprise ! ) to justify a chartered bus, so we "car pooled". It was a lovely, mild fall day. The leaves are just beginning to change colour here. The wineries we visited were mostly along Oliver Ranch Road. They were Tangled Vines, Stag's Hollow, Noble Ridge, Wild Goose, Jackson-Triggs, and See Ya Later Ranch. Nice weather, fantastic scenery, and a lot of great wines to taste. I bought a bottle of 2006 Tickled Pink, a rosé by Tangled Vines. A dollar of the proceeds of each bottle of Tickled Pink sold goes to support the fight against breast cancer. We had ( a very mediocre ) lunch at a pub in the town of Gallagher Lake. After our last winery visit at See Ya Later Ranch we returned to Keremeos down "back" roads, along Green Lake Road and White Lake Road, past the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory.

Thank you, Vern & Bev, for organizing this wonderful outing.

Well, there goes another day of my life that I'll never get back ! Today was the Riverside RV Park Resort's Annual General Meeting. A meeting that lasted about five agonizingly long hours. But ... happily, from my perspective ... it ended with an almost complete decimation of the members of the Board of Directors, despite seven of eight members of the Board seeking re-election. The election of the next year's Board members was a loud and clear vote of dissatisfaction with the past year's Board members. T'was a "palace coup" seemingly brought about with the strength of the developer's bloc of over fifty votes, representing one vote for each of the lots in the park still unsold. Guess you boys and girls got your asses whupped real good, din't ya ? ! ?

In the evening we had a potluck dinner. And it was the best potluck dinner we've ever had at Riverside RV Park Resort. It was very well attended because almost all lot owners were here for the Annual General Meeting. And there were a great variety of excellent dishes ! MMMMM ... now that's what a potluck is supposed to be ! Joanne went home about 9:30 P.M. because she was tired from working all day, and had to work the next day. I stayed and socialized with a small group of neighbours until midnight.
