March 20 to 26, 2022 ; Rio Grande Valley, South Texas

Sunday ; Sunny and very warm.

My mouth continues to heal well. This is the third day since I had a crowned molar extracted, and today I finally began to feel “better”.

This morning while Joanne went shopping by herself at the nearby Dollar Tree I went for a long walk. This afternoon I went to a nearby McDonald’s to use their Wi-Fi to get some important online work done. The Wi-Fi at our RV park is extremely poor. Same as it had been at our Palm Springs RV park. Story of my life !

This afternoon I also did some preventive maintenance on the camper. Joanne and I went for another long walk. And I was able to eat a more or less “normal” meal for supper.

Monday ; Mostly cloudy, extremely windy, hot, humid.

Took a couple of figurative steps backwards today. Ill with colitis all day, probably from new antibiotic and painkiller medications. Tooth extraction site began bleeding and hurting again.

Went to McDonald’s again this afternoon to use good Wi-fi. Got a lot done in a short time again. Did some minor maintenance work on truck and camper. Went for two long walks.

Tall palm tree on our site, behind camper, snapped in half this afternoon. Fortunately, wind direction was such that broken half of palm tree fell/blew away from camper and over fence of residential house behind RV park. <blink blink> WOW … close call !

Tuesday ; Sunny and very warm.

I was very ill today with a colitis flare up. Before that “crippled” me this afternoon, this morning I dropped Joanne off at HEB (supermarket) in Mercedes and I went to shop for RV repair supplies at Ron Hoover RV in Donna.

Wednesday ; Sunny and very warm.

Thankfully, I was healthier today. Probably because yesterday morning I decided to discontinue taking the antibiotics I was supposed to take for a few more days.

Late this morning we drove west to shop at the Don-Wes Flea Market (between the towns of Donna and Weslaco) as well as produce markets and panaderias in Donna, Weslaco, and Mercedes. Bought some guy stuff at the flea market that I didn’t even know I needed. Bought some produce. Bought some pan dulce. The flea market and the produce markets were disappointing. Panaderias are NEVER disappointing. HA HA HA !

We weren’t certain that the flea market was still in existence. Last we heard of it was about a year and a half ago when US Customs and Border Patrol turned it into a “migrant detention & processing center” … <ahem> !

Yes, yes … “southern border crisis” indeed !

Typing this as I watch the late news on TV. Clip of Ted Cruz “questioning” Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. What a deplorable piece of shit he is ! Makes me somewhat embarrassed that he was born in Canada. Makes me somewhat embarrassed to be a Canadian enjoying time here in his state of Texas.

Thursday ; Sunny and very hot, light warm wind, spring wildflowers blooming, felt like a perfect “June 18” day.

Felt healthy today. Blood blister on tooth extraction wound burst and bled today. Late in the day it seemed to be filled up with blood again.

Went to explore town of La Feria this afternoon. Didn’t take long. Small town ! Joanne wanted to see three local thrift stores. All three don’t exist any longer. Wanted to see three local panaderias. Two don’t exist any longer. SO … bought LOTS of pan dulce at third one. HA HA HA !

Drove around town, residential areas as well as commercial. Literally cannot distinguish this town as being in America. Same as any and all scruffy little villages in Mexico.

Friday ; Sunny and very hot today.

Extremely ill today with colitis. Suspect Clostridium difficile infection in colon is probable, caused by Clindomycin antibiotic following tooth extraction. Wish me luck ! Stay tuned !

Today’s plan to visit Space-X launch site at nearby Boca Chica had to be postponed.

For the last couple of days, every time we go for one of our long exercise walks around the neighbourhood we encounter a stray/“feral” puppy who is not trusting enough to come to us when called or approached. AND … the poor little perrito is completely devoid of “street smarts”. Every time we try to capture it we almost succeed in getting it killed by a vehicle !

Saturday ; Sunny ! Very hot. Temperature in the 90’s F / mid 30’s C.

Not as sick today. Guzzling Pepto-Bismal. Ingesting lots of yogurt. Ingesting lots of probiotic capsules. Have doubled all ulcerative colitis medications. Have researched C. diff. on internet. Planning to buy appropriate treatment medications in Mexico next Thursday. If unable to eliminate problem, hope to at least be able to manage it until return home in a month. Do NOT want to have to seek medical care in US !

Immediately after early lunch went east to Harlingen to attend flower show. Disappointing ! For the first time in over 35 years was stopped by police officer for moving vehicle infraction. F*** ! ! ! City of Harlingen female officer was polite and professional. Issued warning for lane change without signalling. HMPH ! Changed lanes angrily after being cut off !

From disappointing flower show drove west to Weslaco to attend OnionFest. Agriculture around Weslaco centers on growing onions, so … annual celebration to honour onions. <rolling eyes>. Almost as disappointing as flower show.

Returned home late in afternoon, napped, then started maintenance/improvement project on camper.
