Chimacum & Port Townsend, Washington

YEAR 2 DAY 139

Last night a Pacific Northwest fall storm rolled in. There was heavy rain and winds overnight and today until early afternoon. The rest of the day was cold, with intermittent light rain.

This morning the weather was so unpleasant that after regular morning routines and chores, I went back to sleep until noon. We had lunch. I did today's regular preventive maintenance. I returned the Tombstone VCR tape to the park's library, and exchanged some books. Joanne wanted to go exploring the Port Townsend area.

We drove north on Hwy. 19 from Chimacum to Port Townsend on the northeast corner of Washington's Olympic Peninsula. Our first stop was the Tourist Information Centre. We picked up some information on the Port Townsend area, and some information on Sequim and the Dungeness Recreation Area where we want to go tomorrow. Joanne guided us on a scenic driving tour around the town and into Fort Worden Park. The town is old, and has many examples of lovely, old Victorian style homes. We saw 3 black tail deer grazing on somebody's front lawn. Fort Worden was a large, old military fortress guarding the entrance to Puget Sound. We drove around the grounds, and along the shore to the lighthouse at Point Wilson. Fort Worden and the surrounding area of Port Townsend are where the movie An Officer And A Gentleman was filmed. We returned to Chimacum, stopping at a greengrocer to buy some fresh fruit and vegetables. On the way back to Evergreen Coho Resort, we stopped at a local municipal park to take a look around.

Back at the trailer we had a snack, and cup of tea while we perused the local tourist information Joanne picked up. Joanne prepared supper while I downloaded and processed some photos from the digital camera, did today's accounting, started today's journal entry, and watched the news and weather on TV. The weather around here looks pretty awful for the next week.

We had supper, then watched Survivor and The Apprentice. The local TV late news channels are showing severe winter storms all around here, but when I walked Bo just a few minutes ago, the sky was clear.
