Charleston to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

YEAR 2 DAY 284

Today was partially cloudy, and mild, with a few drops of rain as we drove this afternoon.

This morning we prepared for departure, and pulled out of the James Island County Park campground. I decided as we were driving through the park towards the exit that we should take Bo to the dog run area for another romp before we left. We spent about half an hour in the dog park. Bo didn't run quite as much, nor as fast, as yesterday. I guess yesterday's hour of full speed running actually tired him out a bit. We left James Island County Park and navigated our way through Charleston. We headed out of Charleston to the north, on Hwy. 17.

We stopped for lunch in a picnic area at Buck Hall National Forest. We continued north on Hwy. 17. Joanne wanted to see the historic homes district and historic Main Street of Georgetown. We exited the highway and drove through Georgetown, exploring. As we drove by the waterfront, I saw a fish processing plant with a sign indicating that they sold retail. We parked the rig on a nearby side street, then walked back to the docks. I went inside and browsed through the fresh fish and seafood. How fresh, you ask ? As I was browsing, fishermen were coming in with tubs full of today's catches. The staff in the processing plant would weigh the catches, and immediately pack them in ice filled waxed boxes. The boxes were going to be shipped out on a semi-trailer within an hour, for delivery all over the country within the next 3 days. I bought some stuffed crabs and some stuffed clams. I had a stuffed clam and a stuffed crab for supper tonight.

We continued north on Hwy. 17, stopping twice before we got to Myrtle Beach, to buy groceries. Once at a large grocery store, and once at a small produce store. We got a little lost trying to find Myrtle Beach State Park, but eventually found it. We registered and got set up in our campsite. I phoned Sharon and chatted for awhile. We took Bo for a walk through the campground, and to the beach. Nice beach on the Atlantic Ocean. But then again, aren't all beaches nice ?

We had supper, then watched TV while I did today's accounting and journal entry. Woo-Hoo ... Amazing Race !
