DAY 46

Woke up late to a beautiful, sunny, warm day. Another one of those days that makes me glad to be alive. And living this dream with moya zheenka.

We left the Festival grounds about noon, heading north on Hwy. 10 just a short distance, then east on Hwy. 5 towards Ste. Rose du Lac, where it turns south to Neepawa. At Neepawa, we turned east again, on Hwy.16. We stopped at a road side rest area for a late lunch ( is there any other kind for us ? ) between Neepawa and Gladstone. As we finished eating lunch, I struck up a conversation with an elderly woman who was getting back into her car after having just picked something in the ditch along side the highway. It was wild sage. She was quite excited about having found some. She showed it to me so I would know what to look for, and explained how to dry it and crumble it for use. We left the rest area and drove a very short distance down the highway until we saw some in the ditch. We stopped and picked about 20 stalks of it for Sharon. The smell of it was so strong in the back seat of the truck, it gave me a mild headache. When we arrived at the Danelak's, Bud immediately hung it upside down from their back porch ceiling, to dry. It sure smells great ! The elderly lady says it makes excellent hamburgers when some is added to ground beef. I'm eager to try it.

Arrived at Danelak's yard late afternoon. Experimented with making "French fries" on the barbecue. Worked quite well. Visited with Sharon and Bud late in the evening over a cup of tea.
