DAY 16

A hot, sunny day. Travelled from Wellesley Island State Park in New York to Ivy Lea Provincial Park in Ontario, on the Canadian side of the Thousand Islands, on the St. Lawrence River. A distance of 20 kilometres. Took over 2 hours ! Crossing the International Border isn't getting any quicker !

Set up at Ivy Lea, walked around the campground a bit, had lunch, then drove into Gananoque 14 kms. away to replenish groceries and supplies. We ran our fridge contents down to almost nothing for crossing the border, in each direction. Meats and fruits can't be transported across the border, in either direction, apparently.

Ivy Lea seems to be quite popular with the recreational scuba diving crowd. Didn't know that recreational diving was so popular with the chain smoking Quebec biker crowd !

Bought some stuff at Canadian Tire that resulted in some "home improvement" work on the trailer when we returned. Balance of afternoon spent sitting outside in folding chairs watching Toby and Teddy enjoy the great outdoors. They're beginning to behave a little better outdoors on ropes in the campsites, although they both still seem inclined to eat grass until they vomit. Only after they accomplish that can they begin to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Made great barbecued burgers with mushrooms, and potato salad for supper. Ate outside at the picnic table. What a beautiful, warm, bug-free evening. Took the cats for a little walk. Chatted with a family of cat lovers from Cornwall. Took the cats back to the trailer, then we walked at dusk to the dock. Sat on the dock in twilight, watching the late fishermen in their boats returning to wherever. Remembered how much I miss this ; sitting on a dock at dusk, etc.. It's been 15 years or more since we've done these sorts of things. I want it back ! Must stop procrastinating about buying a fishing license ... soon.
