DAY 27
A lovely, warm, sunny day. This is a really nice place. We are at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park, which is on Whitesand Lake, where it empties over Rainbow Falls on its way to Lake Superior a short distance away. This morning we walked all around the campground, then hiked over to "West Beach" and on to the Rainbow Falls Hiking Trail alongside the falls. Lovely. Reminiscent of Dogtooth Lake and Rushing River, my favourite campground, near Kenora. The afternoon was spent doing some maintenance chores. I changed a tail light assembly on the trailer, while Joanne continued removing PET VALU logo decals from her van. Late afternoon we walked over to "East Beach" where I removed my socks and shoes, and walked along the shore in the shallow water, with soft sand underneath.
Three times today while walking we observed female ruffed grouse, with their young. Interesting to watch. Mom stands tall, guarding the little ones, as they feed on vegetation. She "coos" to them softly to call them closer when she perceives we are a threat. Alternately, she stands tall and visible, or crouches low, and moves so slowly she is almost invisible.
Great barbecued chicken and squash for supper. We're experimenting with barbecuing different vegetables, since we use the barbecue frequently to prepare suppers. Long, peaceful campfire. Daylight until 10:30 P.M.. Walked to the comfort station in twilight, without flashlight, at 11:00 P.M..
