DAY 21

Well ... what a nice send-off from Ottawa. As we were preparing supper, the sun broke through the clouds, minutes after a light rainfall, and produced a beautiful rainbow. I considered it our farewell gift.

Met with Bill MacQuarrie, our lawyer, to sign papers, turn over keys, etc. for the sale of the house, which takes place tomorrow. Gave away our guest room bed, and Joanne's desk, to our next door neighbours, Pascal and his wife Jackie. Stocked up on groceries, packed the artwork into the van for the trip to Winnipeg, loaded some firewood into the back of the truck, took the last few items left over to the Salvation Army, took my crutches ( from an injury during a ski trip to Whistler on my way to my brother Russell's wedding in Vancouver many years ago ) for donation to a senior's agency that wants crutches, went to the last store we owned, PET VALU 234 Westgate to buy a new harness for Toby ( which they didn't have in stock ! ) and to say goodbye to Barry ( our former employee ) and Bobbie Sue the budgie.

Went into the forest behind the house to say a final farewell to Nikki the Bichon, and Butterball the budgie, both of whom are buried back there.

Retrieved and ( finally ! ) sent e-mail, plugging into a phone jack next door at Pascal's. Been having a real annoying problem with the laptop making frequent, random attempts to dial up AOL since I loaded the Wi-Fi software yesterday. Pascal took a look at it to see if he could solve the problem. He couldn't.

Worked late into the evening on the computer, on finances. YIKES !
